Project Play is an NGO working with children and families on the move in Northern France, at the border between France and the UK. We run play sessions to give families a safe space and mitigate the toxic stress of their environment and experiences. Many families face state and police violence, a lack of access to basic human rights and take life-threatening journeys to access asylum in the UK. I

This talk will include:

• introduction to the context of Northern France and the work of Project Play
• Impact of Fortress Europe on children and families
• Contextual Safeguarding: how we support families in our sessions
• “We Just Want to be Safe”: introduction to our report and advocacy work
• Avoiding Harmful Stereotypes: how to talk about children facing difficulties in this context
• Building Community: how can organisations create a sense of community for families and children

Project Play ist eine NGO, die mit Kindern und Familien auf der Flucht in Nordfrankreich an der Grenze zwischen Frankreich und Großbritannien arbeitet. Wir bieten Spielsitzungen an, um Familien einen sicheren Raum zu bieten und den toxischen Stress ihres Umfelds und ihrer Erfahrungen zu mildern. Viele Familien sind staatlicher und polizeilicher Gewalt ausgesetzt, haben keinen Zugang zu grundlegenden Menschenrechten und nehmen lebensgefährliche Reisen auf sich, um in Großbritannien Asyl zu erhalten.
