Prosfygika (Greek meaning refugee settlement) is the largest squat in Greece with around 500 residents from more than 15 nationalities. Prosfygika has been living a resistant, self-organised life in the centre of Athens for 15 years and is creating solutions for a society beyond the state, power and violence. The residents organise and provide for themselves and are a fundamental part of the political movement in Greece. Prosfygika is an example of lived internationalism, grassroots organisation and practical solidarity with refugees.

Prosfygika (griechisch für Flüchtlingssiedlung) ist mit rund 500 Bewohnern aus über 15 Nationen die größte besetzte Siedlung Griechenlands. Prosfygika lebt seit 15 Jahren ein widerständiges, selbstorganisiertes Leben im Zentrum Athens und schafft Lösungen für eine Gesellschaft jenseits von Staat, Macht und Gewalt. Die Bewohner organisieren und versorgen sich selbst und sind ein elementarer Teil der politischen Bewegung in Griechenland. Prosfygika ist ein Beispiel für gelebten Internationalismus, Basisorganisation und praktische Solidarität mit Geflüchteten.
Prosfygika is a refuge for those, who couldn't find space in Athens, who refused to live in the inhumane circumstances of govermental institutions or who were looking for a place to live in solidarity and resistance. The community is organised as a collective body based on a common framework. The main features are the common ownership of resources, structures and infrastructures, and a common political culture and perspective. The needs of all residents are collectivised and fulfilled in a self-institutionalised manner based on the skills and possibilities of each one.
Prosfygika is based on the model of democratic confederalism, which was developed during the Kurdish liberation struggle. However, democratic confederalism is not limited to Rojava, but must be developed in each locality according to local conditions. Prosfygika is another example of practised Democratic Confederalism as well as the initiative Democratic Confederalism, which will also be shortly introduced, which is concerned with the development of Democratic Confederalism in Germany.
We don't want to give you a lecture, but rather invite you to discuss and reflect together, because Prosfygika is not just a self-managed occupation, but rather a proposal for living.
