Turning state secrets into public pressure – how to use the Freedom of Information law for migrant justice
Langue: English

The freedom of information (FOI) law isn’t just for lawyers or journalists – it’s a tool anyone can use to uncover hidden facts and influence public debates. But how can small organisations find out what governments keep secret about borders, deportations, and EU migration policies? What has already been uncovered - from Frontex files to national deportation centers - and what is still hidden?

In this workshop, we’ll explore how groups and individuals working on migrant justice can leverage FOI laws across Germany and Europe to access crucial information and hold authorities accountable. With practical examples from investigative journalism and public campaigns, we’ll show how everyone can turn dry documents into stories, actions, and multimedia communications that put decision-makers under severe pressure.
