Romy van Baarsen is a journalist and photographer exploring the challenges faced by people on the move when migrating to Europe.
Session
Join us for a panel discussion moderated by journalist Romy Van Baarsen, featuring David Yambio (Refugees in Libya) and a representative from Aegean Boat Report. They will share experiences from different contexts, especially from Libya and the Greek border, reflect on the challenges of their work - including the risk of criminalization - and discuss ways to resist violence and dehumanization against people on the move.
Refugees in Libya is a self-organized movement of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants, initially raising their voices against systemic violence targeting people on the move across Libya and now also active in other parts of North Africa and Europe. Aegean Boat Report documents crossings in the Aegean Sea, providing accurate information and exposing illegal practices such as pushbacks. Both organizations operate support hotlines, communicating with people in emergency situations who are often facing state violence.
The panel will conclude with audience questions and reflections.
